David Hapgood

Due to the current state of the pandemic, services for David on September 11th have been cancelled. David Hapgood 53, a long-time resident of Bartow, FL and former commercial truck driver, unexpectedly passed away on the night of August 5th, 2021. David was born on January 20th, 1968 to Jutta and Larry Hapgood, in La Grange, Illinois. He graduated from West Chicago Community High School, was employed as a foreman for Sundene Construction and a driver for Jon Halverson Trucking before moving to Florida. He worked diligently for B & L Pools in Lakeland before pursuing his love of truck driving. One of his proudest moments was when he became an owner operator with Knight Transportation. On March 4th, 2005 he would marry his soulmate Rhonda, who had 2 children that would become the most important part of his life (until the grandkids came along of course). David was an avid Nascar fan; his favorite drivers were Dale Earnhardt Sr and Jr, Martin Truex Jr, and Chase Elliott. He was a Cubs fan and a Cheesehead. He had a great appreciation of lifted trucks, he enjoyed doing truck shows & attending tractor pulls. Some of his favorite things were snowmobiling, traveling, music, and guns. Dave had an immense knowledge & love of history and geography. He & his dad shared a true passion for electric train sets and even dedicated the entire basement of his childhood home to that hobby. He was well known for his sense of humor and his loyalty to those close to him. David is predeceased by his parents, Larry and Jutta, his sister Amy Tadlock, his brother Cameron Hapgood and his father in law, Rob Hargis. He is survived by his devoted wife Rhonda Hapgood, his daughter Kim Mastronardi and her husband Mike, his son Tyler Switzer, his mother-in-law Virginia Hargis, grandchildren Lexi & MJ Mastronardi whom he cherished & treasured, 1 niece and 2 nephews. He also leaves behind his faithful dog Daisy. We will carry his memory with us always & forever.
